Who We Are

Lyricora is a Boston area ensemble dedicated to engaging, educating and entertaining audiences through performances of the highest caliber. The ensemble strives to integrate New England’s rich historical tradition of choral music with new directions in contemporary literature. In concert, Lyricora is dedicated to bridging the gap between listener and performer – presenting programs that are accessible to today’s audiences while maintaining artistic expression and performance.

As a fully certified 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Lyricora has made it a mission to spread awareness of excellent choral music throughout New England through concerts and school programs.

Financial support and partnership in Lyricora’s mission is critical for gathering support for and spreading awareness of high-quality choral music in local schools and communities. If you are interested in contributing to our mission, please contact us.

DANIEL SCHMUNK

Conductor

A founding member and conductor of Lyricora, Daniel Schmunk is an accomplished music educator, choral conductor, and clinician. Throughout his career, he has held teaching positions in New Hampshire, on Boston’s North Shore, and in the MetroWest region, teaching all aspects of music at every level in both public and private institutions.

In addition to his work in music education, Dan has been actively involved in musical theater, serving in a variety of roles including director, musical director, and conductor. His theatrical credits include productions of The Fantasticks, Godspell, Sweeney Todd, and Into the Woods.

Dan previously served as Director of the School of Continuing Education at the New England Conservatory, where he oversaw all aspects of the conservatory’s adult extension division. He later served as Director of Strategic Development at Portsmouth Christian Academy. He is currently the Choral Director at Lowell High School, where he leads the high school choral program.

As a professional musician and conductor in the greater Boston area, Dan has held church music positions at Tremont Temple Baptist Church in Boston—the first integrated church in America—and at Boston’s historic Park Street Church, where he has served as Director of Choral Music since 2014.

Dan also maintains a private teaching studio on Boston’s North Shore. He lives with his wife, a soprano, and their three sons, all enthusiastic and promising musicians.

C. THOMAS BROOKS

Artistic Director

As a conductor and clinician, Tom Brooks has performed throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, appearing in renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York City, Victoria Hall in Geneva, Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, and the Salzburg Cathedral in Salzburg, Austria. Throughout the Northeast, he is widely recognized as a choral conductor, voice teacher, college professor, opera conductor, and clinician.

After completing graduate studies at New England Conservatory, Tom began his career in Erie, Pennsylvania, where he founded and conducted the Mercyhurst College Choir and Chamber Singers. He was also selected to conduct the Symphonic Singers of Erie during the ensemble’s twenty-fifth anniversary season. After three years, he joined the faculty of The Hartt School in Hartford, Connecticut, where he conducted the Hartt Chorale, Collegiate Singers, Hartt Touring Opera Theatre, University Civic Chorus and Chamber Choir, and Collegium Musicum.

Following his retirement from full-time teaching and church ministry, Tom returned to Erie, where he resides on a 150-acre farm. He remains active as a conductor and clinician, leading choral workshops and overseeing the Salzburg Institute. He currently serves as Director and Conductor of the Erie Philharmonic Chorus and Junior Chorus and as Artistic Director of Lyricora.
